Dear Fellow Animal Lover,
I just got off the phone with a woman I met several years back. Her name was Susan. Maybe her story sounds familiar.
"We brought home a new puppy a couple of weeks ago. We already have a 7-year-old dog and 5-year-old cat in our household," Susan said. "Well, things aren't working out very well - everything's really a mess here!"
Susan went on to describe how their the older dog (who they had adopted about 4 years ago) had begun urinating inside the house and was now growling at her son and daughter. She also told me their cat had begun hiding in the back of the closet or under the bed and was barely eating.
She said that the situation was not improving and she was desperate. Her husband was insisting they get rid of the puppy (but the rest of the family really wanted to be able to keep it).
I knew that we could get to the root of this. I had worked with Susan in the past and she said she was interested in learning animal communication. So, we reviewed the basics and she promised to practice the techniques consistently. I reminded her to trust herself and be patient.
She and the family members began to "connect" with the older dog to find out what was troubling him (and why his behavior had changed). Also, as I had suggested, they provide loving reassurance to her cat.
Susan called me back about 2 weeks later and was ecstatic! She reported they "had been able to learn a few things from the older dog" - things about his past (before they got him) that helped to explain why he was now feeling threatened by the puppy. Using my techniques, they were "talking" with the dog and cat and made a few changes in their own behavior. Slowly but surely, everyone was beginning to understand one another and peace was returning to the household. Shirley has helped families like Susan's many times. She has now put her knowledge and techniques into a book to teach people to work with their pets! She stresses that one of the most important things needed to communicate with pets is that we need to change our perspective! We've got to "get down to their level".
